Can Mira be used with an IUD?Updated a month ago

Yes. Many users choose to track with Mira while an IUD is in place to understand their hormone activity better.

Hormonal IUDs primarily exert local effects within the uterus and do not reliably suppress ovulation. Many women continue to ovulate regularly, while others may ovulate intermittently or experience altered hormone dynamics.

Mira can be helpful both during IUD use and after removal:

  • While IUD is in place: Mira can help assess whether symptoms follow a phase-specific pattern — such as luteal mood changes or estrogen-related fluctuations — even in the absence of visible menstrual bleeding.
It is important to note, however, that Mira does not assess or confirm the contraceptive effectiveness of the IUD.
  • Mira can help clarify what is occurring physiologically by identifying coordinated E3G, LH, and PdG patterns to determine whether ovulation is present or whether cycles appear anovulatory. This is especially helpful in patients with irregular bleeding, amenorrhea, or persistent symptoms who are unsure whether those symptoms are cyclic or hormonally driven.

In summary, Mira provides insight into ovarian activity and hormone coordination in IUD users, supporting more informed symptom interpretation and clinical decision-making.
