Does Mira measure alpha LH, beta LH, or intact LH?Updated 2 months ago

Mira measures intact LH, the complete, biologically active hormone molecule. Some other fertility devices measure only the beta subunit of LH (beta LH) rather than the whole molecule.

The key difference comes down to how long each form stays detectable in the body. Intact LH clears more quickly, producing a sharper rise and fall during the LH surge. This makes it easier to identify the true LH peak and precisely pinpoint the fertile window and ovulation trigger. 
Beta LH, by contrast, lingers in circulation longer because the beta subunit takes more time to be cleared by the kidneys. This can cause the LH surge to appear broader or more extended than it actually is, making precise peak detection more difficult. 

Because intact LH is the same form measured in standard serum blood tests, Mira's urinary LH values correlate more closely with serum LH, making it easier to interpret Mira data alongside conventional lab results.

Mira's intact LH measurement provides a more dynamic and clinically actionable view of the surge, which supports:

  • Identifying the LH peak more clearly
  • Timing intercourse
  • Planning mid-luteal progesterone testing (typically 7 days post-ovulation)
  • Cycle tracking for fertility awareness and natural family planning (NFP/FABM)
