What is PdG and how does it differ from 5α and 5β-pregnanediol?Updated 34 minutes ago
All three are urinary metabolites of progesterone, but they represent different points in the metabolic pathway:
- 5α-Pregnanediol and 5β-Pregnanediol are intermediate metabolites produced when progesterone is broken down via two distinct pathways
- PdG (Pregnanediol Glucuronide) is the final conjugated urinary excretion product formed after both 5α and 5β-pregnanediol undergo glucuronidation
In simple terms: progesterone → 5α/5β-pregnanediol → glucuronidation → PdG → urinary excretion
