What medications, supplements, interventions are contraindicated with Mira?Updated 3 months ago
To ensure accurate results when using Mira for testing, it’s important to understand how the following medications and supplements may affect the data:
- Methylene Blue: Do not take Methylene Blue while using Mira for testing.
Discontinue Methylene Blue 5-7 days before testing to avoid interference. - Biotin: High doses of Biotin (5,000 mcg or more per day) can disrupt urine hormone tests, particularly affecting hCG levels in urine and TSH, T4, and T3 levels in blood. Biotin has a half-life of 2 hours, but its metabolites can remain in the body for up to 24 hours.
Discontinue high-dose Biotin supplements at least 48 hours before testing. - Vitamin C: Doses greater than 1,000 mg per day of Vitamin C may impact hormone metabolite results in urine.
- Pregnenolone: It can affect Mira results by increasing progesterone metabolites due to the first-pass effect, although it does not directly raise progesterone levels.
To monitor endogenous hormones, discontinue oral or sublingual pregnenolone for 3 days before testing. - DHEA: To monitor endogenous hormones, discontinue DHEA at least 1 day before testing.
- Pyridium: The pharmacokinetics and mechanism of action are not well known, but according to the studies, it affects dipstick tests for LH and hCG. It produces color interference, altering the results, and is suspected to interfere with some immunoassays, resulting in false results.
- Spironolactone: Spironolactone can interfere with natural LH patterns. Some people may still ovulate, despite little to no detected LH changes, while others may notice irregular cycles or even stop ovulating after starting spironolactone.
- DIM: DIM supports estrogen metabolism, which may lower urinary E3G levels measured by Mira.
Other medications and supplements may also affect Mira data. Please refer to our detailed protocols for specific guidelines.
